About the work

In Jonathan Bennett’s artwork the human body is reduced to simplified, often comic forms, that reference an industrialised world. They present theatrical melodramas, enacted by anthropomorphic objects. His spurious titles echo the allegorical tradition in European painting, while subverting its pomposity. These artworks do not offer fixed meaning, but rather a charged space in which the unconscious can surface.
